The WASSCE is created for students in their senior secondary last year. Even so, the constitution covers several types of candidates.

• These are people who are studying in secondary schools and are registered for the WASSCE by their schools.
• People not in regular schools or who want better results from their previous WASSCE exams can sign up for it by themselves.
• Every year, WAEC sets up two series of exams for private candidates.
• The first series takes place during the first stages of the year.
• Second Series: This series comes up at the year’s end.
