Although the JAMB sets a national minimum UTME score in universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education, each institution determines its cut-off marks depending on its needs and the number of applicants.

As an illustration, in 2025/2026, the national minimum in universities was 140, and that of polytechnics and colleges of education was 100. Institutions such as the University of Lagos will screen candidates based on a minimum of 200 points in the Post-UTME screening exercise, whereas other institutions might have a lower score.
